Year 4

Welcome to Year 4! We are looking forward to working together with you to help your child shine their light, be the best that they can be and instil in them the school values of love, respect, trust, hope and thankfulness. Whilst we do spend some time preparing for the Times Table Check in June, we do have a lot of exciting opportunities to look forward to such as working towards the National Music Award with Mr Navekar, working with leaders in other schools with the Trust Leadership for Children opportunity, a trip to Quarry Bank Mill, and working with Mr Moffat, our School Governor, on our class charity ‘Education India’.

Adults in Y4

Miss Collier is the class teacher. Mr Navekar will teach the children on Mondays for drumming, Mrs Park and Mrs Silvester will teach Art and DT and Mrs Inman will teach Spanish on Monday.  Mr Spencer will teach PE on a Friday. Mrs Barrett is the class Teaching Assistant who works in class part of the time. Please feel free to speak to any of these adults about your child if there is something we need to know.

 The Shine Curriculum

Children begin learning at 8:55am every day so please ensure your child arrives promptly to school.

Home learning

Maths homework will be given out each Friday and will need to be returned by the following Friday. I will email you to inform you of what the children have been set. It is important that Y4 children read as often as possible –  but they also benefit from listening to good readers and discussing characters, plots and what they think might happen next. Reading books can be changed on a Tuesday and a Thursday as long as the reading record has been signed by an adult.  These days are flexible, however, if your child needs a fresh book in between these times.

Classroom practices

We encourage the children to bring in a water bottle every day. We would kindly ask that it is one with a sports cap. The children should also bring their reading books and reading records into school every day. We also ask that the children bring their iPads fully charged to school each day as we use them regularly and we do not have the capacity to charge them all in school. Please ensure that all PE kits, coats, jumpers etc are named – especially jumpers and coats which they might remove throughout the day.
