Music
At St Peter’s, it is our intent that we make Music an enjoyable learning experience. We encourage children to participate in a variety of musical experiences through which we aim to build up the confidence of all children. Our teaching focuses on developing the children’s ability to understand rhythm and follow a beat. Through singing songs, children learn about the structure and organisation of music. We teach them to listen and to appreciate different forms of music. Children develop descriptive language skills in music lessons when learning about how music can represent different feelings, emotions and narratives. We also teach technical vocabulary such as dynamics, pitch, beat and rhythm and encourage children to discuss music using these terms. Music enables an alternative way of expression that provides positive well-being at St Peter’s. We want the music lessons to be fun and inspiring, engaging our pupils with songs, lyrics and movement. In our lessons, children can be reflective and expressive, which encourages their development of an appreciation of music with the opportunities we provide as a school. At St Peter’s many of our pupils are taught woodwind, brass, piano and guitar by peripatetic tutors and we have a successful school choir that performs at various events, including Bolton Schools' Music Festival. By the time they leave us, the children are able to sing songs, speak chants and perform rhymes using confident, clear diction, control of pitch and musical expression. They appreciate that time and place can influence the way music is created, performed and heard and can use a range of musical vocabulary to understand and explore pieces.
Our Choir
We are very proud of our Choir and as well as performing in music festivals and Christmas fairs, they have recorded some songs! We have worked with Songs For School to record three songs. You can hear them here!
