St. Peter’s has adopted the Manchester Diocesan Board of Education Syllabus for RE which fulfils all legal requirements and the RE Statement of Entitlement from the Church of England Education Office 2016. This is the recommended syllabus by Manchester Diocese of which we are a part.
We encourage all children of any faith or no faith, to participate in all RE lessons as it's vitally important for all children to learn about different peoples' faith and beliefs. Please do come and speak to the headteacher if you want more information about what RE we teach.

Right to Withdraw from Religious Education and Collective Worship
At St. Peter's, Religious Education (RE) is taught in line with the agreed syllabus and reflects the school’s Christian foundation while exploring other faiths and worldviews in a balanced and inclusive way. We aim to help pupils develop knowledge, understanding and respect for different beliefs.
However, parents/carers have the legal right to withdraw their child from:
- all or part of Religious Education, and/or
- all or part of Collective Worship (e.g. assemblies with worship elements)
If you wish to request withdrawal, please speak to the Headteacher in the first instance. We encourage parents to discuss any concerns with us, so we can explain how RE and collective worship are approached in school. Often, parents find that once they understand the content, withdrawal is not necessary.
If withdrawal is still requested, we will make alternative arrangements for your child during these times. This may include supervised independent learning in another area of the school.
To arrange a discussion or to request withdrawal, please contact the school office on 01204 333500 or email office@spsd.fa1.uk
